SEO Success: Maximize Your ChatGPT SEO Results with Advanced Keyword Research, Prompt Refinement, and Output Cross-Referencing

Welcome to our article on maximizing your keyword research using ChatGPT! ChatGPT can be a powerful tool for specific SEO tasks, helping you save time and uncover valuable insights. However, it's important to understand its limitations and optimize your prompts for accurate results. In this article, we'll explore how to effectively incorporate ChatGPT into your SEO process, highlighting ways to maximize keyword research, tips for prompt refinement, and the importance of cross-referencing outputs. Let's dive in!

Step one: Topic ideation and keyword brainstorming.

While traditional keyword research tools provide valuable data, they often result in highly competitive keywords. ChatGPT can assist you in identifying untapped keyword opportunities. Let's consider an example for a business focusing on vegan recipes.

By creating unique prompts, such as imagining yourself as a book publisher developing a 'Vegan Recipes for Dummies' book, you can generate ideas for chapters and essential keywords.

Consider this prompt:

“Imagine you are a book publisher who has dealt with many books about specific topics related to “for Dummies.” If I want to write a book called “vegan recipes for dummies,” what are the chapters to focus on?”

Although the output may not directly provide the keywords you seek, it offers a structure and ideas that can guide your keyword research.

Another prompt could revolve around planning a conference for vegans, exploring great topics, panels, and Q&A sessions to include.  For example, you could ask:

“Lets say I am planning to host a conference for vegans, what are some great topics, panels, and Q and As I should include in the conference?”

These prompts help you think outside the box and uncover unique keywords related to your niche.

Step two: Competitive research.

While ChatGPT lacks real-time data, it can still provide insights into your niche's competitive landscape. For instance, you can prompt ChatGPT to list popular blogs and websites focused on vegan recipes.

By breaking down these websites into high-level categories based on their content, you gain valuable information about topics and sub-niches within the vegan recipes domain. This understanding allows you to identify areas where you can differentiate your content. Look at this prompt:

“Can you list the most popular blogs and websites about vegan recipes?”

You can follow up the above prompt with the following one to get ideas for diverse topics and sub-niches:

“For those sites you have listed please break them down into 5-15 high level categories based on what they write about. Provide brief descriptions of each category and specific examples of their main focus areas”

Step three: Social media and influencer research.

ChatGPT can also help you gain insights into your niche by examining social media accounts. Let's explore how you can leverage this approach. By prompting ChatGPT to list popular Twitter accounts that regularly tweet about vegan recipes, you can discover influential voices in the vegan recipes community. Additionally, exploring popular subreddits related to vegan recipes and identifying the most discussed topics within those subreddits can provide you with valuable content ideas and FAQs. Consider the following prompts:

“List the most popular Twitter accounts that tweet regularly about vegan recipes” .

You can also consider Reddit using the following prompt:

“Identify the most popular subreddits about vegan recipes and the most popular topics they talk about”

Dg deeper with this prompt:

“Identify specific titles to popular threads from the popular topics you have listed above”

The output gives you ideas about specific focus areas for your content or FAQs.

It is also possible to get an overview of thought leaders and influencers on your topic:

“Identify the people who re ‘vegan recipes influencers’ or ‘vegan recipes thought leaders’”

You can then concentrate on additional topic ideas to understand the topics these people talk and tweet about using the following prompt:

“You have just identified popular vegan recipes twitters accounts and listed vegan recipes influencers and thought leaders.  Based on what these people and accounts write and tweet about, provide a list of broad categories with specific tweet examples or statements by influencers. Please include the most popular tweets from the accounts in a separate list.”

Step four: Summarizing and refining your research.

Once you've gathered information from ChatGPT, it's essential to consolidate and organize your findings for further analysis. You can prompt ChatGPT to combine all the data you've gathered, including the categories for a 'Vegan Recipes for Dummies' book, conference ideas, website categories, Twitter accounts, and influencers. Ask ChatGPT to develop a single list of potential sub-niches or categories of topics related to vegan recipes for your new website. For example:

“So, in this chat we have considered the categories for vegan recipes for dummies book, conference ideas for vegan recipes trainers, the categories and themes of topics covered by popular vegan recipes websites, popular twitter vegan recipes accounts and vegan recipes influencers and thought leaders. Now, I need you to combine all these data and develop a single list of potential ‘sub-niches’ or categories of topics related to vegan recipes for a new vegan recipes website. Include the general category, a brief description of the types of posts for that category, and some specific ideas for posts based on all the information we have gathered in this chat”

Step five: Researching actionable keywords.

While ChatGPT doesn't provide keyword difficulty and search volume data, you can still generate a list of 'seed keywords' to run against your preferred keyword tool. Prompt ChatGPT to generate a short list of broad vegan recipes keywords for each sub-niche. Then, refine the list by adding 'vegan recipes' to more of these keywords. Finally, clean up the list by asking ChatGPT to convert it into a copy-and-paste-friendly format. Here are the prompts:

“For each of the sub-niches, generate a short list of broad vegan recipes keywords”

You can then refine based on your output using the following prompt:

“Where applicable, add vegan recipes to more of these keywords. For example, rather than serve, vegan recipes serve”

Next, use this prompt to clean up your list:

“Now, take the keywords and convert them into a list of keywords that I can copy and paste”

After getting the list, use your favorite tool such as Ahref or Google Keyword planner, consider matching terms, and filter for terms with a keyword difficult of five of lower for your topic.

Now that you have some terms with search volume and difficulty metrics, you can get back to ChatGPT and seek more information for those terms. Use the following prompt (you can refine it the way you want):

“Here are some keywords with keyword volume and difficulty. I need you to create a column for the subtopic about what we have done in this chat that would be related to a specific keyword, the search intent of that keyword, and a column for extra terms that may be needed in a blog post about that topic: keyword difficulty volume (arrange your keywords like this and paste them into the chat)”

You should get a table with five columns (keyword, difficulty, volume, subtopic, search intent, additional terms) and several rows.

You can also get additional keyword data on your new list of terms using the following prompt:

“Can you show me how many posts each sub-topic contains and how many fit into int each search intent level?”

This information will help you balance your content output across business lines, categories, and support for various products or tools.

Step six: Page-level keyword research.

ChatGPT can also be a valuable tool for comparing your content to top-ranking articles and identifying missing keywords or knowledge graph entities. Copy and paste your content and the ranking article into ChatGPT and ask it to identify keywords focused on by the ranking post. Request ideas for extra tips, links to other resources, and expert tips that you can include in your content. Here is an example:

“This article that I have pasted ranks first in Google. Please identify any keywords that the post focuses on (terms in its headers and phrases related to vegan recipe used in the body) that is missing in my content. Also, identify any knowledge graph entities in the post that is missing in my content.”

Follow up the results with this prompt:

“Give me some ideas for extra tips on selected shots and their method. Also, identify any links to other resources and expert tips that I may include”

Capitalize on the ability of ChatGPT to remember previous prompts in a chat. You can include more high ranking articles with the same prompt above.

Bottom Line

ChatGPT is a valuable tool for keyword research, offering immense value at no cost or with a subscription. However, it's crucial to be aware of its limitations and supplement your findings with data from reliable SEO tools like Google Keyword Planner, Semrush, or Ahrefs.

Remember, understanding how ChatGPT functions, refining your prompts, and cross-referencing outputs will help you leverage this tool effectively in your SEO process.
